# Overview

The Proof-of-Performance (PoP) protocol is the governing protocol within the Prospect ecosystem. **The PoP protocol is Prospect's proprietary algorithm that aims to model and quantify the performance and work performed by athletes in real-life (on the court, on the field, on the ice, in the ring, etc.) across various sports.** This is accomplished by translating **real-time sports data into energy**, that energy is then used to for the following:

1. Distribution of Prospect Points and $CHAMP
2. Validating the outcomes of [Prospect Picks](/prospect/vision/prospect-picks.md)
3. Determining winners and distributing $CHAMP in the [Prospect Arena](/prospect/vision/prospect-arena.md)

Similar, to other protocol's such as Proof-of-Work (PoW) and Proof-of-Stake (PoS) which govern the distribution of $BTC and $ETH respectively, the PoP protocol governs the distribution of $CHAMP. What makes the PoP protocol truly unique, is the bridge between the **Physical World** and **Web 3.0**.

The Proof-of-Performance (PoP) protocol is founded on three core concepts:

1. Athlete Work to Power Conversion
2. Reward Distribution Algorithm
3. Statistical Performance Benchmarking

Each concept is an essential pieces of the foundations of the PoP protocol.

**In the following section, we will detail how the PoP protocol works and how it interacts with the various products within the Prospect ecosystem.**
